The Great Debate
The problem with generalisation.
Online gamer who says he’s a JC student sparks war in cyberspace when he calls polytechnic undergrads…
-STUPID
-CHILDISH
Some of the things he said:
Stupid – ‘If someone can’t even meet the minimum cut-off to enter a JC, it’s just plain sad’
Childish – ‘People from poly should know their place’

AHH?
Here’s my take on this whole issue of “Poly student sucks and JC students prefer hand job don’t sucks.”
In every argument, we first look at the credibility of the parties, and more importantly the obvious flaws in each arguement.
HEATED EXCHANGE 1Redpony: The fact that we can do better in all the
exams up till now means that we have a better learning ability than the rest of
you. We still do well in subjects we don’t like. Put an average JC student in a
poly and he’ll ace everything. HTML? Teach it to any JC student and he will
definitely master it in less than half the time poly people take. I don’t see
how the poly kids can ever do better than any jc boy when they can’t even do
well for the O Levels. O Levels is just elementary stuff. Simple maths, simple
science and basic mastery of your languages.
Try to see if you would be able survive in a polytechnic environment. I bet poor little redpony might even quit halfway because our little wittle friend has only theoratical knowledge swarming in his teeny weeny mind. What is theory if you can’t or don’t know how to put it into use? I’ve seen JC students flop at creating even a simple HTML webpage, what can be said about these people then? And please, RED PONY??? WAT A DUMB NAME!
When will this ever stop? It seems that Singapore education have create a dividing group of students. The JC students refering to Poly students as someone who are inferior in academic results while the Poly students retaliated by calling JC students bookworms, nerd…
I myself, is a poly graduate and it’s FUCKING not easy tackling the modules in the polytechnic. You are expected to understand the new knowledge and concept within 4 months. During this period, you have to struggle with quizzes, practicals, tutorials and lectures. Apart from that, you are expected to do group work and form project teams to discuss about the assignments and finally give a presentation to all your lecture group. Easy? Nay!
Life beyond studies is more than just books and knowledge. It is the interpersonal and communication skills as well as the ability to reorganise ideas, manage resources (people and skills) and to seek new opportunities. We can be a talent but we can’t be a Jack of all trade.
A real sucessful person is not one who have the highest knowledge or one who earns the most. He is not someone who are proud of his achievements or boast about his present results and bashed those whom he thinks are “inferior”. A real successful person is one who is able to work with talents from all fields and all areas for the best of the company/organisation and the country, as well as the world.
Ok, maybe I write too chim, Red Pony don’t understand.
The problem with him, is that he GENERALISED. But he can’t really be blamed cos the studipity and assholic mindset he inherited from his parents (ya, u get wat I mean) isn’t exactly his fault. Afterall, there are poly students who CREATED this mindset that poly students are inferior.
An example would be MR STEVEN LIM.
He’s from Nanyang Poly and he’s an idiot. This could be a source in which Red pony thinks that poly students are dumb.
Another example would be Tammy from NYP.
Ok, I did say that I wouldn’t be digging her up again but I can’t help it. Wateva she did has created the GENERAL concept that poly students are only good at sex videos.
Humans has always used association to think, to analysis stuff. They use wat they knew, then associate EVERYTHING’s that’s similar and then put them into the same group. That’s exactly wat red pony did, isn’t it? Putting poly students into the likes of Tammy and Steven lim, as well as all those who did not make the cut out points to JC…
I wonder if he knows everything’s diverse and everyone’s different.
Generalisation is so wrong.
Rock on.
