300 Spartans VS 4 Teenage Turtles

Spartan King Leonidas: You! Athenian! What is your profession?
[points to Athenian soldier behind the Athenian leader]
Athenian #1: I am a potter.
Spartan King Leonidas: Hm…and you?
[points to another soldier]
Athenian #2: I am a blacksmith.
Spartan King Leonidas: [turns to his soldiers] Spartans! What is your profession?!
Spartans: Harooh! Harooh! Harooh!
[simultaneous, followed and preceded by immediate silence]
Spartan King Leonidas: [turning to the Athenian leader] You see? I brought more soldiers than you did.

300 was the craze last month prompting me to watch it. All I can say is that it got a non-existance storyline, and nothing more than violent eye candy. Very sadly, even though the cinematography and visuals are good, it didnt hook me at all, with no tension anywhere in the story. It’s violence for violence’s sake and I really don’t understand why people are all crazy over it.

The lines are good though. Witty.

Another movie I watched last month was TMNT!

Michelangelo: Did anyone get the license plate of that thing that hit us last night? It looked like your mom, dude!
[laughs]
Donatello: …Yeah, that would make her your mom too, doofus.
Michelangelo: …Nuts.

TMNT does its job: CGIs are done very nicely, the visual overhaul of the Turtles’ design comes near the original comic-look and for a kiddie flick (let’s face it TMNTs target audience is well below 14) it is a shade darker, cooler and grown-up than any of the other animation films hitting the Box Office right now.

I was not sure what to expect after some of the reviews I read before seeing TMNT, but have to admit I was pleasantly surprised. Snappy one-liners and some tongue-in-cheek comment make this a great CGI-movie.
Especially the hyper-kinetic camera work and the rather unusual scene setups were really intriguing.

All in all, I think 300 got beaten hands down by 4 jumpy funky turtles.
